Italian chestnuts, or castagne, are a prized seasonal fruit in Italy, with a slightly sweet, starchy, and uniquely nutty flavor that's often compared to a sweet potato.
They are popular from late September through January, with street vendors selling freshly roasted chestnuts in cones, especially around the holidays.
